The unveiling of this long overdue memorial to the memory of two fallen hero’s John Morley & Henry Byrne shall take place at Shannon’s Cross Loughlynn Co. Roscommon on Friday 28th. July 207 at 2pm. For those attending please be in situ before the event.

Erection of a Memorial in memory of Detective John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne. 

The proposal was  to erect a monument at Shannon’s Cross, Loughglynn,   Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, the scene where Detective Garda John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne were fatally wounded after a Bank Robbery in Ballaghaderreen Co. Roscommon on the 7th of July 1980. The monument, made of stone approximately 3ftX6ft, with photographs of both Gardaí and Garda Crest on it. Estimated total cost of project will be approximately €20,000. This will now happen on 28th. July 2017.

A committee formed in Loughglynn are kindly seeking a contribution to offset costs towards the completion of the monument.  Whatever subscription is forwarded will be greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged in a booklet that will be published for the unveiling which is due to take place in July.
