On January 17th a group of 73 once again made up of members from various branches throughout the country departed to The Westport Woods Hotel for a three night break.

On our first evening when we had all settled in we began with a drinks reception followed by Christmas dinner and a surprise visit from Santa, this added to the atmosphere of the evening.

Over the course of our stay we participated in various activities, indoor bowls, a slide show, bingo, we had a Mass and one of the highlights was a talent competition. There was wonderful participation and some amazing talent in the group and judging was the responsibility of hospitality manager Mary Callally who had a very hard decision to make.

The overall winners were a group made up of Alice Lawton from Waterford, Fintan Duggan from Wexford and Maurice Crotty from Tipperary, and they are amazing musicians so well deserved winners, second place went to Joe Dunleavy from Limerick for his recitation which was perfectly delivered.

The hotel looked after us extremely well the facilities are fantastic the food was wonderful we had music and dancing nightly and everyone participated and joined in the fun.

The few days simply flew past and as they say “ time flies when you are having fun”, as we went our separate ways we all left with lovely happy memories of Westport and many new friendships had been forged.
