Garda Siochana Retired Members fully support this initiative to erect a suitable memorial to the memory of our fallen colleagues John Morley and Henry Byrne. This tragic incident happened in July 1980 , just coming up to the 37th. anniversary of these murders.  The memorial is suitable and long overdue.  We urge you to support this project.

Erection of a Memorial in memory of Detective John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne. 

It is proposed to erect a monument at Shannon’s Cross, Loughglynn,   Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, the scene where Detective Garda John Morley and Garda Henry Byrne were fatally wounded after a Bank Robbery in Ballaghaderreen Co. Roscommon on the 7th of July 1980. The monument, made of stone approximately 3ftX6ft, with photographs of both Gardai and Garda Crest on it. Estimated total cost of project will be approximately €20,000.

A committee formed in Loughglynn are kindly seeking a contribution to offset costs towards the completion of the monument.  Whatever subscription is forwarded will be greatly appreciated and will be acknowledged in a      booklet that will be published for the unveiling which is due to take place in July.
