Garda Síochána Retired Members’ Association (GSRMA) send the warmest of Birthday wishes to our esteemed colleague Sean Tighe who celebrates his 100th. birthday today..
Sean is a member of Fermoy Branch, but resides in Naas with his daughter. In 1947 Sean was awarded a Gold Scott Medal for his bravery in the apprehension of armed robbers. He and his colleague on the day Garda Michael Flynn were wounded.
Sean hails from Ballymote in Co. Sligo, and joined An Garda Síochána in 1943. His registered number was 09209F. In his young days Sean was a member of the Garda Boxing team. Sean retired in 1982 – 37 years ago. At the time of his retirement Sean was Weights & Measures Inspector in Fermoy, Co. Cork.
Sean joined GSRMA immediately on retirement and served as Chairman of Fermoy GSRMA Branch from 1982 to 2007.
We say well done Sean and we hope you get to enjoy many more years in retirement.
