The National Gallery is closed December 24 th-26th, but otherwise open, every day, and it is a brilliant seasonal resource. Apart from the permanent collection, which is free and has never looked better than in the beautifully refurbished and enhanced galleries, there is the stunning Canaletto and the Art of Venice show (with a charge), the perfect antidote to winter. There are a number of free art workshops, tours (family friendly and otherwise), talks and storytelling .
