Positive indicators from a tiny bit of praise to winning a championship or solving an outstanding case are motivators that encourage an individual, an organisation or team. Yesterday, I made a visit to Ballincollig Garda Station, Co. Cork to collect the contents from one small charity mite-box. It was full with coins and a few currency notes. What a surprised it was to find the contents from one small box contained €160. From my own experience this little mite-box speaks volumes of the trust and confidence the community have for the local gardai.
On the very same day, the Irish Examiner’s main Editorial had a heading “Two Victories for Relentless Policework”. It was referring to the (1) conviction of Graham Dwyer for the murder of Elaine O’ Hara and (2) Conviction of Shane Fitzgerald in respect of the fatal hit & run accident at Gneeveguilla, Co. Kerry in July 2012 resulting in the death of 42 year old Paud O’ Leary.
Finally, the Editorial Comment in the Irish Daily Mail (31st March) gives a clear indicator of the Garda Síochána operating at its very best.
