Over 1200 Gardai Retired Since 2009

Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan yesterday told the Public Accounts Committee that since the Public Sector recruitment moratorium was introduced in 2009 over 1,200 Gardai retired from the Garda force.  He also highlighted that civilians cannot be used for sensitive tasks as the strength of the Garda Síochána has fallen to 13,300 .  You can read more on the Garda Commissioner evidence by reading the Irish Times Crime Correspondent’s report (Conor Lally) by clicking here
