Matt Cosgrave, from Dublin North Branch was elected the 14th President of the Garda Síochána Retired members’ Association following the GSRMA conference in Killarney. He took over the office from Gerry Blake who spearheaded the 6,000 strong membership since 2012. The association is proud of the achievements and advances made during his tenure, in particular the official opening of GSRMA House, Harrington Street, Dublin in May 2014.
Matt Cosgrove, a native of Carna, Connemare, Co. Galway, is a fluent Irish speaker and Sean Nós singer. He gave most of his Garda service in the Dublin Metropolitan Area. Back in 1964, he was selected as Drum Major and leader of the Garda Síochána Band when it made a successful tour of the USA. Matt gave a number of years as an instructor at the Garda In-Service Training Centre in Dublin and also served with the United Nations in Cyprus. His long service in the force was recognised with promotions to Inspector and Superintendent ranks. Following retirement from the force in 1997, he gave his time and efforts to support the GSRMA Dublin North Branch which today has over 500 members.
