Killarney Trip to Glasnevin & Botanic Gardens

On Wednesday, 11th June 2014, a group from Killarney Branch set off on the early morning train for a tour of Glasnevin Cemetery and the Botanic Gardens in Dublin.  Led by old stalwarts like Jim Casey (Branch Sec.) Pat Lehane (Chairman) and John Thornhill (Branch President), the group included Jerry Cronin & daughter Eilish, Frank & Marie Considine and Eileen Lehane.

At Glasnevin Museum & Restaurant they enjoyed tea/coffee before joining an hour long cemetery tour.  The tour took in visits to grave of (1) Roger Casement; (ii) Daniel O’ Connell; (iii) Charles Steward Parnell; (iv) James Larkin; (v) Eamon de Valera; (vi) Republican Plot and (vii) Michael Collins.  Afterwards they visited Glasnevin Museum and went for a stroll to see many other headstones including the DMP & RIC Monuments.

In the afternoon they walked into the nearby Botanic Gardens, so that the Kerry ladies went home with ideas on new flowers and roses.  The photographs hereunder will give you a selection of the variety and colour on view.

From the Botanic Gardens, a Church with a High Roof caught their attention and there was time to visit, make a wish and express appreciation for a lovely day in Dublin.
