When the Garda Pensioners’ Association was established 52 years ago, its Central Committee realised the need to UNITE with other retired associations in the battle to gain Parity of State Pensions. Three stalwarts from the G.P.A. along with representatives from retired teachers, army officers and civil servants set-up a “Joint Consultative Council (JCC) of Retired State Servants” in September 1961. The grievances our founding members endured relating to meagre pensions have to-day come back to haunt us. In order to deal with this issue the Garda Síochána Retired Members’ Association last year joined forces with similar groupings to form the “Alliance of Retired Public Servants”. The Central Committee of the GSRMA set-out with a view to learning from the past and compiled a researh into some of the workings of the J.C.C. The task was not easy, is not complete but nevertheless our research document is so far very much appreciated by the newly formed Alliance of Retired Public Servants.
