I believe that the wonderful way the 1916 Rising was commemorated last year brought the Revolution back to the people in every parish in the country. Our Defence Forces brought the National Flag and 1916 Proclamation to schools and explained to the young students the meaning of the Green White and Orange. Communities across the land held commemoration ceremonies and ensured that the Rising Centenary was not hijacked by the representatives of the latter day murder gangs.
I recommend any interested member to check out the Bureau of Military History website.
Put ‘Garda’ in the search engine and you will get a list of the many Gardai who participated in the events of 1916 to 1921 and the statements which they submitted to the Bureau. The statements are a fascinating account of the activities of a small volunteer army in its struggle against the might of the British Empire
